My "Aha" Moment & Giveaway

I'm always interested to hear others "aha" moments - those moments of pure light and inspiration when everything comes together! For me, this happened about 8 or 9 years ago, when I was just beginning to dabble in creating artwork. My professional degrees are in music, and for many years I enjoyed a successful career as a professional accompanist in Chicago. I truly love the time I spent playing, but there was always a pull toward the art field and creating something other than music with my hands. I was taking a pastel class through the local art league, and I created this huge lotus in class...and I realized it was really good! I was walking back to the car and my moment of divine inspiration happened in the parking lot. I knew instantly this was my passion, and I literally started crying because it was such a powerful feeling.

Share your "aha" moment with me and you'll be entered to win a Morning Glories print and note card set. Can't wait to hear from you! I'll pick a winner on Wednesday, May 11!

Valerie! Your flowers! I'm looking at all your recent flower pieces and I've fallen in love with all the swirls and patterns and colors. Beautiful pieces! Good luck with your exhibition!!!

As for my Aha moment.... :( I think I'm still waiting for one. Things tend to dawn on me pretty slowly, I'm afraid. Still, I've got my mouth open, ready to say, "aaaaaaah haaaaaa!" at any moment! :D

What a lovely give-away! And a fun way to enter...so here is my Aha moment.... Many moons ago I was asked to make a prop for a local madrigal production, and, thinking upon about how to go about creating it, I decided upon paper mache. As I was working on my project, I realized I was really enjoying the medium and what I was able to do with it, and it dawned on me that paper mache really had the potential to satisfy my sculpting proclivities, which I had basically abandoned after my college sculpting courses ended because... (A.) I figured I didn't have what I believed was the necessary large studio space in which to work, (B.) I didn't have access to a kiln (C.) I wasn't willing to shell out big bucks for lots of $$ clay, and (C.) I actually sort of hated the plaster casting process with is part and parcel in the sculpting process. Well, paper mache turned out to be the answer to all of those things -- who knew! Through trial and error i have figured out how to really make it work for me over the years -- and haven't looked back...!
